9 Healthy Snacks For On-The-Go.

9 Healthy Snacks For On-The-Go.

To clearly define what I mean by healthy snacks on-the-go, all of these items are:

  • First and foremost, delicious
  • Real Food
  • Gluten-free
  • Sugar-free
  • Chemical & additive free
  • Portable & quick and easy to make
  • I.E. FOOD FROM THE EARTH

1) Raw cheese and brown rice crackers.

The reason I love this snack so much is because it makes you feel like you’re splurging and eating something that’s not good for you.  Raw cheese is full of probiotics, essential amino acids from the raw milk, and enzymes necessary to properly digest this food in the body.

When cheese is heated through pasteurization all of the good baterica and probiotics in addition to the enzymes necessary for digestion are killed off.

My favorite raw cheese is Organic Valley Raw Sharp Cheddar with Mary’s Gone Crackers.

Sliced, diced, and sprinkled with cinnamon is the perfect sweet treat or snack on-the-go.

Tip: Use the snack packs of any nut butters to make it even easier to throw in your bag or purse.

3) Green smoothie (pre-made and taken in a glass water bottle)

If you’ve read ANY blog from me, you know that I am a lover of the green smoothie.  It packs a healthy dose of greens, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to keep you humming all day long.

Here are two of my favorite recipes:

4) Kale chips

Ok, so I have a blog called Peace, Love, and KALE.  You just knew that kale was going to show up on this list.

So why are they so rockin’? Like the rest, kale chips are inexpensive, easy to make, delicious, and can be taken on-the-go, any where, any time.

HOW TO MAKE KALE CHIPS:

  1. Wash your kale and remove the leaves from the stem in bite size pieces.
  2. Massage with coconut oil and season with sea salt, garlic, black pepper, and any other spices that peak your fancy.
  3. Place in the oven on a flat baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

And there you have it folks!

Note: You can buy these at the store but they are really expensive, about $8 for a bag and I ALWAYS eat it in one sitting.  Lame. Go ahead and make them yourself, you can do it!

5) Quinoa salad

The best way to make and enjoy quinoa salad is to make it in a big batch and then have it ready to go in your fridge.  That way you can pop in and have a couple spoonfuls before you head out the door or take it to-go in a tupperware container.

Here is my favorite quinoa salad recipe.

I also like to add some quinoa to my lunch and dinner salads for an extra boost of protein.  Winning!

6) Raw nuts & seeds

Raw nuts and seeds are a portable health food to always have on hand.

I keep them at my desk, in my back pack, and around my house at all times.  Grabbing a handful of raw cashews or almonds is just as easy as grabbing some Pringles or an oreo, and will make your life feel so much better.

7) Real Food Bars

Say what you will, but the meal replacement bar game has increased tenfold over the past few years.  When I’m in an all day yoga teacher training or back-to-back meetings, real food bars ensure that I get some nutrients into my body before I start eating my hand off.

Here are some of my favorite:

  1. Epic Bars
  2. Greens Bars
  3. Exo Bars (oh yeah, these are made with crickets.  Thought you might like to know that!)
  4. Chia Bars
  5. Lara Bars

8) Avocado with sea salt

Healthy fat.

Satiating. Filling.  Craving-reducing.  Skin-glowing. Bloat-reducing. Mood-enhancing.

You feel me?

Some times, especially when I’m flying, I take an avocado, cut it in half, and eat it with a spoon.

PS- I’ve been known to eat it with my hands as well.  Judge not 😉

9) Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries)

Mother Nature’s candy.

Eat them alone, or slice them up to make a chia seed pudding parfait.
